Northern Ireland Biobank contributes to All‑Ireland Biobanking Symposium
The Northern Ireland Biobank (NIB) was delighted to contribute to the All‑Ireland Biobanking Symposium, held in Dublin on October 17th, 2025, under the theme “From Sample to Society.” This important event brought together biobanks, researchers, clinicians, and patient representatives from across the island to explore how biobanking can shape the future of healthcare research.
Representing NIB, Dr Claire Lewis (Operational Manager) presented an overview of our ongoing work, highlighting how NIB continues to provide high‑quality biological samples and associated data to support research into cancer and other major diseases. Her presentation reinforced NIB’s role as a trusted partner in enabling discovery and advancing translational research.
Sessions throughout the day showcased the breadth of biobanking expertise across Ireland, while also emphasising the importance of the patient voice, consent, and community engagement in building trust and shaping a responsible future for biobanking.
The Symposium also included a poster session, to which NI Biobank contributed three posters. We were delighted that Claire received the poster presentation award for her work titled “Public awareness and attitudes toward the use of artificial intelligence in pathology research and practice: results from a nationally representative UK survey.
NIB looks forward to continued collaboration across the island. Together, we are building a stronger biobanking network that will enable discoveries to improve patient outcomes and transform healthcare research for generations to come.
